Video Games as Physical Activity

With Christmas right around the counter you can bet that most children's lists to Santa include at least one or two video games on it. Well at this time of year it is especially important to keep in mind that without the required physical activity that school offers combined with all of the delicious treats that are so abundant, it is easy for children, as well as adults to put on extra weight and playing video games is not usually what comes to mind when it comes to exercising to get rid of those holiday pounds. However, times they are a changing and nowadays there are many different gaming systems that offer "exergames" like Dance Dance Revolution, that will help you and your children stay fit and healthy, while also enjoying some family time.  (read more)

Why Juicing Vegetables is so Important to Your Health

Vegetables contain most of the nutrients and vitamins that our bodies require in order to function properly. Unfortunately most of us are not eating enough raw vegetables in order to meet our daily requirements in order to stay healthy. While cooked vegetables are delicious and better than none at all, when we cook vegetables we tend to cook away all of the valuable nutrients that our bodies need. So the best way to consume raw and uncooked vegetables is to juice them, not to mention that a veggie juice travels well when you're on the go. If you are looking for a great juicer for yourself or as a gift try the Omega 8005 Juicer, it's the best juicer you will ever own.  (read more)

Exercising with Stretch Bands

If you are looking to purchase a new piece of fitness equipment for your home gym, than might I suggest stretch bands, that are both affordable and easy to travel with or keep at the office for a quick workout. Stretch bands are basically two handles held together with rubber tubing and it is with the force of your own body that you achieve the resistance needed for a proper workout for any body part, because they can work out any of your major muscles. Another great aspect is that they can be used at any fitness level at any age. They are so easy and yet so effective that anyone can use them to achieve greater fitness results, you can find them in varying degrees of resistance to in order to achieve maximum results. Roger Clemens Personal Trainers Steroids

Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds, Marion Jones, and the thousands of other athletes how are using or have used steroids.  First off these athletes all make a choice to compete and being an athlete they want to be the best.  I understand why they may take short cuts, and it's unfortunate that there personal trainers get them these performance enhancing drugs because if they where great personal trainers they could achieve amazing results without using steroids.

most personal trainers, athletes, or people have no clue how the body functions and how to train correctly to maximize results.

Steroids are an easy way out do they work yes, extremely well, do they make the athlete improve there skill no not really, they help increase muscle, improve strength, get faster, leaner, increase testosterone levels which has been shown in competition to improve victory, and increase recovery time making them be able to perform at higher levels more frequently which is huge for athletes which means more higher performance on a consistent level.

This being said I don't get it who's the idiots that haven't realized this has been going on for years in the Olympics, professional, college, and high school sports for years.  Growing up I think I was first introduce to steroids in 8th grade, and seen it ever since through college and even today at the gym.  I know more recreational athletes who use steroids today than ever before.  I don't recommend them by any means, I believe you can achieve greatness by doing everything right from eating to exercising correctly.

Though hard work and putting in the time and extra effort mentally and physically is much more challenging when doing everything correct, than it is popping a few pills or injecting yourself with some performance enhancing drugs.

My real question is should we blame society for expecting these athletes to perform at these high levels day in and day out for our entertainment purposes, because I guarantee that we as people wouldn't want to watch athletes perform at a lower level of competition.

of course I believe the athletes are responsible for there actions we all are, hell the personal trainers who got the athletes these drugs should be convicted as well.  We all are responsible for our actions.

Personal trainers, Athletes, Fitness Experts, Society for the pressure, and so on.

Why center out so many athletes when there are so many that are doing it as well.

What really launched The Rocket?

Reports are surfacing that Roger Clemens' personal trainer has stated that he provided steroids to the seven-time Cy Young winner, and Clemens will be named in the Mitchell Report.

I don't know if I want to live in a world where I can't trust my personal trainer.

We'll know more at 2 p.m., but the whispers about Clemens have been around for years. If it's true, it won't shock many industry people.

Would it change your opinion of him? Would he now reside in Barry Bonds' neighborhood?

If the answer to my second question is "no," please explain.

Interesting that the guy didn't retire a few years ago if he knew this was coming.

One thing's for certain: By the end of the day, nobody is going to be talking about Jay Gibbons.

Revisiting yesterday's trade, don't be surprised if the Orioles move Luke Scott to another team. I wouldn't get too attached to him yet.

Otherwise, if Jay Payton isn't traded -- and he's certainly available -- they could platoon in left field unless Scott emerges as an everyday player. We're still unsure if he qualifies, but he'll get a chance if he stays.

Adam Everett is available and an option at shortstop. I talked to one scout today who compared him to Mark Belanger. He said you need to  see Everett play five days in a row to appreciate how good he is in the field. If you saw Belanger for one day, you might not take a second look.

That said, I'm still not a fan. Of Everett's, I mean. Loved The Blade.

Incontinence how to deal and cure the issue.

Incontinence how to deal and cure the issue.

Many women and people suffer from incontinence, you may ask yourself right now how I can solve your problem right now. well just stop and read for a little bit, if you read below in the article written "Panel Urges End to Incontinence Stigma" you will read how doing kegal exercises correctly wall help strengthen the pelvic floor, which is correct.

though which they didn't mention is that there are many other exercises that can strengthen the pelvic floor to rid yourself from this issue of incontinence.  Being that the diaphragm, pelvic, floor, transverse abdominals, and internal oblique all work on the same neurological loop, you may benefit by working all of these muscles to help train your pelvic floor to hold in and stop incontinence.

though what else could be happening, possible digestive issues a gut that isn't working properly which could shunt these muscles from working right or being out of alignment which causes nerve's not to fire correctly which would otherwise keep you from incontinence.  When it comes to the human body there is never an easy fix, well yes there is, and it takes the right assessment and the proper modalities implemented to solve the issues of the body.

Your best bet to cure Incontinence or to reduce the occurrence is to do all of them, clean the gut out with a good detox program: Detox Program, learn to exercise correctly performing horse stance, kegals, true core exercises which you may find here: http://www.workoutexercisevideos.com/ and learn to eat healthy and take care of your body from experts here: www.personalpowertraining.net call now to get custom eating programs that get you to your goal and listen and follow by hanging onto every word, cause your results will amaze you if you follow everything.  You may also go to: http://www.healthycookingvideos.com/ to learn how to cook, shop, and eat healthy foods.

Remember the body takes time to respond, it's not just like you have put on your weight in a day, or been treating yourself poorly for a few weeks, to reverse the junk you have done to your body takes 6 months to a year to completely change your body into something truly amazing.  So no sticking to a program for a week and saying it didn't work because it takes time to build masterpieces. Invest the time, energy, because in the long run you will benefit far more than anything you can imagine right now.

To your Success.

Panel Urges End to Incontinence Stigma

By LAURAN NEERGAARD (AP Medical Writer)

From Associated Press

December 12, 2007 9:23 PM EST

WASHINGTON - One in four U.S. adults will experience incontinence at some point, a surprisingly high toll, and the condition is so embarrassing that many suffer silently, a government panel said Wednesday.

Women are most prone to incontinence, which is the inability to control urination or bowel movements. But everyone's risk rises as they get older. Being overweight and a couch potato adds to the risk.

With the population rapidly graying and fattening, scientists convened by the National Institutes of Health issued an urgent call for research to find better ways to prevent incontinence and to remove the stigma so more people will seek help.

"We as a society need to get over our discomfort with this subject so that incontinence sufferers receive the compassion, acceptance and care they need, and our aging population can take steps to prevent incontinence in the future," said Dr. C. Seth Landefeld, geriatrics chief at the University of California, San Francisco, who led the panel.

Today, fewer than half of the people with incontinence volunteer their symptoms to a doctor, the panel found. That is the case despite a variety of effective treatments, from exercises to medications and surgery.

Prevention is better, but the panel found major gaps in the understanding of the biology of incontinence that hinder that effort. For now, the panel's best advice is for people to seek help.

And for those without the problem, exercise and dropping extra pounds are recommended as protection.

"All of us are walking around with a bag of water and a bag of stool in our pelvis," Landefeld said. "Anything that exerts increased pressure on those, tends to push them out, is potentially leading to incontinence."

Among other suggestions are:

·       Women especially should try exercises of their pelvic floor muscles, popularly termed "Kegels," to keep them strong enough for good bladder control. But ask at a checkup if they are being done correctly. Too many women wind up squeezing the wrong muscles.

·       Obestricians should end routine use of episiotomies, an incision that enlarges the vaginal opening for childbirth. Obstetric groups long have issued the same advice, saying episiotomies are useful only if the baby is in distress. But Wednesday's panel cited estimates that 1 million women a year still receive a routine one, leading to perhaps 1,000 of them suffering fecal incontinence directly after birth or later in life.

Urinary incontinence is the more common type; previous estimates have put the number of people with this condition at around 13 million. Actually, more than 20 million women and 6 million men have experienced urinary incontinence at some point, the NIH panel concluded.

The two most prevalent subtype are stress incontinence and urge incontinence.

Stress incontinence is leakage caused by physical pressure to the abdomen, such as coughing, sneezing, laughing, jogging or lifting a heavy object. Urge incontinence is a sudden, uncontrollable urge to urinate, sometimes called overactive bladder.

Fecal incontinence is harder to measure, even more stigmatized and thus hardly ever studied. The best estimates suggest it affects up to 5 percent of the general population and up to 39 percent of nursing home residents.

Pregnancy and childbirth can trigger incontinence that can be either temporary or lasting. So can menopause, when the loss of estrogen is thought to weaken some bladder-control muscles.

But other risk factors are myriad and poorly understood: radiation therapy, pelvic injury or surgery, urinary tract infections, neurological diseases, the panel found.

The severity of incontinence varies widely, from a few drops to a major impairment that requires wearing diapers and may strand people in their homes.

It is a huge trigger of nursing home admissions, particularly with dementia patients whose caregivers cannot handle the added stress and physical toll of diapering an uncooperative adult.

Disturbingly, much incontinence in nondemented nursing home patients is not due to biology but lack of staff to help the frail get to the bathroom in time, the panel noted.

Anti Aging Discovered

Anti Aging Discovered, well they found how exercise can be better for age release than dieting for mice.

A study in by a Washington university showing how mice lived longer by making there muscles worked more in efficiently, and exercise is a great way to get your muscles move more in efficiently.

so another study showing how exercise is great for you?

wow what a surprise, so why use so many expensive creams, lotions, when of course it all comes back to exercise and eating right which will get you the best results.

read the study if you want or call a trainer today and start reducing the cause of disease, wrinkles, fat, grey hair and so much more.

Stay young with exercise.

Fighting Diseases Of Aging By Wasting Energy, Rather Than Dieting -- Works For Mice

ScienceDaily (Dec. 6, 2007) — By making the skeletal muscles of mice use energy less efficiently, researchers report that they have delayed the animals' deaths and their development of age-related diseases, including vascular disease, obesity, and one form of cancer. Those health benefits, driven by an increased metabolic rate, appear to come without any direct influence on the aging process itself, according to the researchers.

Metabolism researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have found that although it does not extend maximum lifespan in mice, activating a protein in muscle tissue increases average lifespan and prevents some age-related diseases. The researchers believe a similar approach may someday help people avoid age-related problems such as atherosclerosis, diabetes, hypertension and even some cancers.

"When you make the mitochondria inefficient, the muscles burn more calories," a metabolic increase that could be at least a partial substitute for exercise, said Clay Semenkovich of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. "There are a couple of ways to treat obesity and related diseases," he continued. "You can eat less, but that's unpopular, or you could eat what you want as these animals did and introduce an altered physiology. It's a fundamentally different way of addressing the problem."

Atherosclerosis, diabetes, hypertension, and cancer occur more frequently with increasing age, the researchers explained. These age-related diseases are distinct from the process of aging, a physiological decline that includes decreases in muscle strength, cardiopulmonary function, vision, and hearing as well as wrinkled skin and graying hair. Thus, the researchers added, aging and age-related disease are associated but may not share the same mechanisms.

Given the difficulty of validating strategies to increase life span in humans and the possible dissociation between aging and age-related diseases, the researchers said, identifying a simple intervention affecting several age-related diseases is an attractive approach to decreasing the morbidity of growing old. They suspected that treatments designed to alter the efficiency of mitochondrial respiration might be one way to accomplish this.

In a series of experiments, the research team bred large numbers of mice, fed them a normal chow diet and followed each mouse until its natural death. Half were genetically engineered to make more of a protein in their muscle tissue called uncoupling protein-1. Their littermates did not make excess uncoupling protein. In muscle tissue, uncoupling protein-1 converts the energy from food into heat and mimics the effects of exercise.

Past research conducted in the laboratory of Clay F. Semenkovich, M.D., the Herbert S. Gasser Professor and chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Lipid Research, had found that mice with extra uncoupling protein-1 in muscle tissue are protected from diabetes and obesity.

Because the experiments took so long for this study and involved the breeding and following of so many mice, Semenkovich was joined on the paper by three first authors: Alison C. Gates, Ph.D., a former postdoctoral fellow in the lab now studying at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville; Carlos Bernal-Mazrachi, M.D., assistant professor of medicine and of cell biology and physiology; and Sharon L. Chinault, Ph.D., former postdoctoral fellow and now assistant professor of biology at MacMurray College in Illinois. The findings are published in the December issue of the journal Cell Metabolism.

"Uncoupling basically means generating inefficient metabolism," says Semenkovich. "We knew years ago that when mice manufactured uncoupling protein in muscle, they didn't become obese. The next challenge was to see whether the protein would be relevant to some of the major problems that affect humans, namely aging and age-related disease."

The longest-lived animals in each group lived for 39 months and died within two weeks of one another. What was different was the median lifespan for the mice. Median survival in the uncoupled mice was 30 months, compared to 27 months for their wild-type littermates.

"We were a little bit disappointed because we had hoped uncoupling in muscle would slow aging, but maximum lifespan didn't increase," Semenkovich says. "However, the odds of reaching that maximum lifespan did improve in the uncoupled mice."

Semenkovich says the mice with the genetic alteration were more likely to live longer, presumably because they were able to avoid age-related diseases. One result appeared in all of the experiments: Decreasing body fat and inflammation in the animals by accelerating muscle metabolism with uncoupling protein delayed death and diseases, including atherosclerosis, diabetes, hypertension and even cancer.

The researchers examined the mice after each animal died. They were surprised to find that female mice with the uncoupling protein mutation were less likely to develop a type of cancer called lymphoma. None of the genetically engineered females did. No differences in lymphoma rates were found in male mice. Increased uncoupling protein-1 in muscle also reduced markers of chronic inflammation.

In a second set of experiments, the researchers found that the uncoupled mice were less likely to have vascular disease. That was the opposite of what Semenkovich and his colleagues previously had found in mice engineered to overproduce uncoupling protein-1 in the wall of the aorta, the body's primary artery. Rather than being protected from damage, those mice were prone to develop high blood pressure and atherosclerosis.

"Where the uncoupling occurs has a big impact," he says. "If this principle someday becomes a therapy, it will be very important to target the proper tissues to produce the desired effects."

The team also generated a line of mice that made extra uncoupling protein only after the animals received drug therapy. They genetically modified a line of mice that already were prone to become obese. When the researchers gave these animals an antibiotic drug called doxycycline, they manufactured more uncoupling protein in muscle tissue and reversed their problems with glucose metabolism and hypertension related to their obesity.

Prior to these experiments, the researchers hypothesized that uncoupled mice might experience the type of increased survival seen in animals on calorie restriction. "Here at Washington University, we have Dr. John Holloszy, one of the world's leaders in aging research," Semenkovich says. "Calorie restriction prolongs lifespan in animals, and Dr. Holloszy has elegantly begun to translate caloric restriction studies to humans."

In landmark studies in the 1980s, Holloszy's team also had shown that rodents getting a great deal of exercise tended to live longer, but unlike calorie-restricted rodents, their maximum lifespan did not change. Uncoupled mice, Semenkovich says, resemble the animals that exercised.

"Uncoupling in muscle may be a substitute for exercise," he says. "If that's true in humans, and if uncoupling can be done safely, this could be an important therapy because it's sometimes very difficult to get people to exercise."

Gates AC, Bernal-Mizrachi C, Chinault SL, Feng C, Schneider JG, Coleman T, Malone JP, Townsend RR, Chakravarthy MV, Semenkovich CF. Respiratory uncoupling in skeletal muscle delays death and diminishes age-related disease. Cell Metabolism, vol. 6:6, Dec. 5, 2007. DOI:10.1016/j.cmet.2007.10.010
